Fast Food Nation: Chapter 4
The combination of getting lot of food that tastes good for a low price is a hard bargain to beat. Especially if your working all the time just to make ends meet and feed a family or just working hard at college; fast food is hard to beat because cheap and you don't have you don't have to prepare it or cleanup a mess. This provides a high opportunity cost to the college student who can just make a quick phone call while studying, spend a few bucks and get back to working while gaining an extra hour of studying time. Even if the food is not the healthiest, this is a pretty hard appeal not to fall into. In addition, by getting college kids hooked on to fast food during their 4 years at college, its going to be pretty hard for them to break the fast and easy habit when they graduate. So in the end, the fast food industry has gained a even more loyal customer because of its unbeatable efficiency and easiness. In a sense, Fast food has made people very lazy in addition to their expectations of having everything done in an instant.
