A Talk to Teachers
In A Talk to Teachers, James Baldwin discusses the importance of a sense of identity in individuals to create a successful and realistic society. Baldwin stresses the responsibility that teachers have to install an independent and individualized way of thinking in students who can develop into active members of society. Baldwin also discusses people's lack of vision and the necessity to rekindle this vision. Baldwin also talks about how our youth simply allows popular ideas become their opinions, but they do not actually form their own decision, they allow society to form it for them. Lastly, Baldwin, talks about how society ideally wants people who do not challenge ideas but simply abide by the rules and have no indivdual stance.

James Baldwin did a great job making a personal connection with his audience by using ethos. Even though he was not a teacher himself he knew very well the huge role they played in a creating a successful society, and the large influence they had on their children's opinions that would some day form who they are as a person.
