Huckleberry Finn ch 28-31
As I posted in the previous blog, I predicted that the king and the duke were going to cause Huck and Jim a significant amount of trouble. I believe I was correct, the king and the duke have done things that went against Huck's morals, and Huck has had to take large risks, and keep up with multiple lies to set things right that the king and the duke have done to steal money from others. For example, when the king and the duke claimed to be uncles of Mary Jane and her sister, Huck had to set up an entire scheme to set things right with Mary Jane and her sister to get the money back to them that the king and the duke stole. This was a huge risk because if the king or the duke found out he was working against them Huck could be killed, and if any of Mary Jane's family discover that Huck was not the person he claimed to be, they would see him as a thief and he could also be killed. The king and the duke also sold away Jim, which will present Huck with a huge problem when he attempts to get him back. I think it was a bad idea of Huck and Jim to simply allow two strangers to travel down the river with them without knowing anything about who they were and what their intentions were. Huck and Jim will be much better off when the king and the duke are out of their lifes, and are not causing more problems for Huck to correct.
