Chapters 28-31
In this section of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", Huck tackles the issue of respect. Respect is something that has to earned over a period of time and with Huck never having a father-figure he can look up to, respect is something he struggles with. He is continuously making references to his friend Tom Sawyer and wondering what Tom would do in situations that Huck is placed in. Huck is constantly trying to make Tom respect him like he respects Tom. The "King" and "Duke", which are now referred to as "frauds", did not have Huck's respect to begin with. This section also played into the idea of greed. When Huck releases the fact that he took the money and hid it, everyone panics. All they care about is finding the money to better themselves, an act that is not respectful at all. Huck has respect for Jim despite the fact that he is a slave, so much so that he considers Jim to be one of his best friends. Huck will search for Jim and hopefully find him alive so they can escape the frauds.
