When Huck goes back to the raft and finds Jim missing he is told he was captured and going to be sold. Huck seems torn between doing the 'right' thing, which is letting him be sold, and the wrong thing, which is helping him and bringing him back. It is to see that in a time like this Huck would turn to God for an answer, even though when he was back with Ms. Wattson he all but rebelled when it came to her Bible lessons. It shows that in some way, throughout the journey, Huck has grown in character.
