In Chapters 23 through 27 it seems as if Mark Twain is starting to evidently make fun of society. Twain slowly starts to pick apart the ridiculous of society in the previous chapters, but in chapters 23 through 27 it becomes very obvious. An example of this would be the absurd play put on by the Duke and Dauphin that stole peoples money for a short show. After the show had ended the people realized that had been cheated, and in result to that decide to make a plan of revenge. They began lying to other towns people by telling them how great the show they attended was because then that way they would not be the only ones getting cheated out of their money. After more and more people started attending the show and realizing they were also getting cheated they began to devise a plan to personally attack the Duke and Dauphin. This resulted in them getting played once again by the cheaters themselves. This shows society is often to gullible which makes it easy for liars like the Duke and Dauphin to take advantage of them.
