Throughout chapters 19 through 22, Jim and Huck continue on their journey, they begin to become more informed of how people act in the real world and less niave. Throughout their journey they come by two men who claim to be a duke and dauphin. As Huck and Jim listen to their story of how they got into trouble, and as the inform them of their titles of Duke and Dauphin Huck begins to feel as if they are nothing but a bunch of phony low lives looking for attention. Huck informs the reader in Chapter 19 page 5 that his dad had taught him of men like this before, and it is better to just let them keep on believing their fooling you then start an argument even though you know they are lying. This shows the reader that Hucks ability to identify different types of people and how to get along with them develops the longer he is out fending for himself. This also shows the reader that Huck may truly be a reliable narrator because he was so quick to realize the type of people that were lying to him and Jim.
