Chapters 19- 22

In these chapters, Huck and Jim are living the good life, until they come across two very dangerous men; the "duke" and the "king." These men seem harmless to Huck and Jim, but they continue to lie about who they are in order to use Huck and Jim's services and their resources. These men continue to make up lie after lie, and they change the system that Jim and Huck had become accustomed to. Huck begins to see that they have made these titles up in order to get Jim and himself to wait on them hand and foot. The "duke" and "king" lead them into risky situations, and even if Jim does not notice it, they are making it very dangerous for him, and risking his life for their own benefits. For example, Huck and Jim had traveled at night to avoid any potential conflicts, but when these men come along, they convince them that traveling in the day would be a possibility. Huck is hessitant about this, but he is also still young and agrees to it. It is interesting how Huck picks up so early on the fact that they are being used, but does nothing about it and continues to go along with it. I think that if Huck continues to follow others just because he feels obligated, he will be led into much more trouble that he himself would get into. This goes back to his age and showing that he is scared and still afraid to stand up for himself, or for his friend, Jim.
