Chapters 19-22
In these chapters the art of deception is a big player. As we see the Duke and King lie about everything to Huck, Jim and the town folk for there personal gain. Even though Huck immediately see's through their deception he doesn't address it because he see's it only as a form of survival which he uses so frequently but also he doesn't raise an objection because he believes it is safer and more peaceful if there is no conflict on the raft. In addition this chapter shows the irony of civilization of the river vs. land. Most would think land would stand for the symbol of civilization, and life on the water would stand for chaos, conflict, and uncivilized life. On the contrary as shown the river has been the symbol of peace and basic civilization and freedom while land so far as been affiliated with chaos, direst, and uncivilized people who form in mobs, kill random men and who are imprisoned by their belief in a false form of civilization.
