I think the founders of the fast food industry saw that American society was moving foward and had ideas on how to make American food industries more effeciant and productive. Yes, they were partly motivated by the fact that they knew they could make money from the idea but that wasn't entire purpose. They saw how society was becomeing fast paced, found a way to make the food industry fast paced to match society and found a way to make a profit, just like any revolutionary idea.
But wouldn't you say that the whole purpose for making the industry more efficient was to make money? While some probably were motivated by the thought of moving the fast food industry ahead with all the other changes in American society I think the majority were out to make a quick buck.
