Fast Food Nation: Chapter 5
I don't believe the french fry is the Icon of the fast food industry since the idea of fast food franchises were already off the ground and growing even without the frozen french fry. The frozen french fry wasn't created until the late 1940's according to the chapter. I do believe though that french fries do play a very big role in fast food but its by no means the icon. If there is an icon to fast food it would be the hamburger or the big mac. When people order fast food they are always thinking about what meal to get/sandwich And with this meal comes with the french fries, not the other way around.

Although the fast food industry did not start out serving fries, it is one of the only things that we can look at and immediatly think "fast food". The big mac is the main dish,sure, but if the hamburger were the icon of the fast food industry, why did the publishers of fast food nation put fries on the cover?
