Fast Food Nation ch. 5
I think the French Fry has become an integral part of the fast food meal. When someone goes to a fast food resteraunt they expect fries to be part of the meal they order. Fries are popular mainly because they are cheap and taste good. If people thought about how unhealthy those fries are they may just be less popular.

This is true. Although fries are unhealthy, people expect them from fast food joints. I even get fry requests at Taco Bell...
