Fast Food Nation Ch 7
The IBP revolution drastically changed the principles behind the meat packing industry. What once was a job that required somewhat of a skill set, was "well paying", and created a future for many Americans became a "McDonald's-Like" industry that focused on production and profits. As a result, "wages were cut", improving working conditions were sacrificed, and thousands of jobs were given to immigrants. The final product became more important than the process, and so where the meat actually came from and what was in it became far less of a concern than making money on it.

ReplyDeleteThis really shows that over time the fast food restaurant truly became about greed. While it might not have started out that way, short cuts in production began to be taken which put the fast food restaurants where they stand today.
