Fast Food Nation Ch 6
Further industrialization in the marketing of meat and poultry would have very negative outcomes for the quality of the food. For one, more industrialization would mean more production, which would cause less focus on the quality but more on the quantity of food. In the fast food industry it appears as though everything is about quantity, not quality, especially when it comes to the food. Further industrialization would have grave effects for the average rancher. It is already extremely difficult for a rancher to sustain himself and his family when he has to compete with large beef corporations who may be using illegal pricing tactics to ensure the lowest price for the corporations. As more and more ranchers were taken over by more large scale operations, the quality of the beef would go down drastically.

It is very true that fast food places more focus on quantity than quality. You would think that ranchers would be of more importance to the meat and poultry production, and it is sad that they are barely able to get by.
