Fast Food Nation Ch 3

Not all people should be able to work behind the counter of a fast food restaurant. The hiring process needs to be strict in order to make sure that the environment created is safe for customers. Of course some things such as race/ethnicity, religion, and most beliefs (except racism) should not prevent someone from working, but things like criminal history, psychological state, and ability should be things that prevent people from employment. For example, a schizophrenic murderer that does not speak English should not be working behind the counter. Some customers may feel uncomfortable being served by someone that is different from them, but they should get over it pretty fast because they encounter different kinds of people everyday. America was once called "the melting pot" for a reason.

  1. I love your example about the murderer! I agree that America is a melting pot but in most circumstances, racism, sexism, and common ignorance play into determining if a customer will make a purchase at that fast food location. The customers who fail to get over their problem with the workers, probably shouldn’t be spending money in that restaurant.
