Fast Food Nation Ch 3

Anyone should be able to work behind the counter, of course there are some requirments they must meet before getting the job, such as being able to speak the most prominent language of the area and having at least some social skills. Anyone should be able to work behind the counter because it is a very "low level job" that requires only a small amount of skill and training. Unfortunately, in society, there are some people who possibly decide not to eat at the resteraunt if the person working at the counter is of a different race than them, this should not be an issue that the resteraunt considers since that problem lies with the customer, not the cashier. Someone who does well at the counter should be rewarded for their efforts, since this is probably the most demanding and stressful job when considering how rude and disrespectful people can be, and that the efficiency of the resteraunt begins with the person working at the counter. This reward system would promote those behind the counter to work more efficiently, and have positive attitudes, which would hopefully cause the same attitude from the customer.

  1. I agree that the problem is with the customers, but I think the most common cause of leaving a restaurant because of the person behind the counter would be due to ignorance about different cultures, races, and religions. I’d rather buy food from a happy, positive person than a grumpy teenager who did not want to be working in the first place.
