Fast Food Nation Ch 10
I believe that the McDonald's franchise and its atmosphere represent certain American ideals, such as the desire for fast, cheap, little-hassle things, but not necessarily America as a whole. As for it representing modernization, it may have when it was first developed, but the creation and invention of new systems, products and ideas in any area are what truly represent modernization.

Very interesting take. I agree with you that the reason McDonald's is sometimes is the iconic image of America because it associates the invention of new systems as you stated.
