Fast Food Nation Ch 10
There is absolutely nothing about McDonald's that represents modernization. McDonald's utilization of under-educated employees is a perfect example of how McDonald's does not represent modernization. This shows that McDonald's is not concerned with progress, but only worried with their personal gains, knowing that these employees will do little to change the working conditions. However, McDonald's may, in a way, represent America. McDonald's represents the business sector of America, and thus the capitalistic behaviors of some Americans by concerning themselves with only their personal gains and not concerning themselves at what expense their success is being made possible. Similarly, America now has the highest rate of over-weight people in the World, and nothing better represents this than the Golden Arches.

I like your point. The statement is very Ironic In a way McDonald's modernizes by creating more efficient process to make fries and burgers while they at the same time they are de-modernizing the world by making the population very unhealthy.
