No, i don't agree with this statement. I think that a fast food chain represents modernization much much less than things that prove america is moving forward, such as "go green campaigns" or finding cures to illnesses. When compared to other examples of modernization, mcdonald's stands for much less.
I agree with you that MacDonald's doesn't stand for what modernization probably should be striving for. But would you agree from an economic stand point that when a McDonald's arrives to a country and starts building their franchises that its a sign of economic improvement and a push out of being a third world country?
