Baldwin that education's purpose is to create people who think for themselves, yet in society that is not the kind of person society itself wants. Most would say the 'easy fix' to this problem would be to dumb down education and to keep people in the dark while there would be a select few who get a proper education, but how could society fairly decide who would get the education most wouldn't?
