The history Teacher

The History teacher by Billy Collins is about teachers sheltering chlidren from the truth. I think the teacher in the poem represents most teachers in the public school system today because teachers dont teach the full truth to children especially in elementary school. The stanza about the children going out to the playground "to torment the weak and the smart" gives a good perspective on how truly ''innocent" the children are. I think this poem is rather true to todays public school system.
