I think a big reason why college students and large lower/middle class family choose fast food restaurants is for convenience. Not only are they most often in an easily accessed area they are always consistent in their prices and their food. They all have the same hours, and there is a wide variety of different foods that are for similar prices. A ten dollar bill can easily buy you a meal at any fast food restaurant.
