Fast Food Nation: Chapter Two
It was a brilliant marketing strategy for Fast food Franchises to target children because it is very easy to make an impression on young children. It is a fact that many habits that people carry for the rest of their lives originate from their early years. The idea of marketing to children is based on the principle that if you can't get children to get hooked on an idea or habit they will continue that for the rest of their lives which would mean approx another 60-65 years of future purchases. In the case of fast food; getting children to get addicted to fast food by the time they are five or so, means that they will be forever returning customers. This means thousands and thousands of dollars in future revenue for every hooked child that they get by advertising. This young age is clearly the best targeted age because any age older will have already opinionated and set habits.

You made a lot of good points. The 'life long customer' strategy really does work. Do you think it worked as well as the industry had hoped though?
