Fast Food Nation: Chapter 7
The IBP industry affected the meat packing industry in a variety of ways. But the biggest overall impact was the ideology in making quick easy money by the corporate CEO's who were willing to take any short cut that would benefit them monetarily even if it meant putting the lives and limbs of their workers at high risk. In addition the high surge of immigration aided these companies in their short cuts because they could cut wages, cut hours, and cut the sanitary standards. The final step for the industry was getting out of arms reach of the unions and by achieving this the industry standards were significantly cut in a negative way and this was done by moving the processing factories out in rural country and in addition this destroyed farm land and its beauty by the unbearable smells of the meat factories.
