chp. 3 fast food nation
I don't think fast food restraunts should discriminate against who they hire, but part of a job behind the counter is that you have to have good communication skills. Someone who doesn't speak english very well shouldn't have a job that requires them to communicate with other people who speak english. People who speak english but just have poor communiation skills also should not be working behind the counter because it is annoying to the customer is the person behind the counter only knows how to mumble or is permantly grumpy and cannot be understood. I don't think it's a matter of customers being served by people who are different than so much as an issue of being able to communicate easily with each other.

Speaking English is very important in this type of industry. Workers should be able to effectively communicate with customers to better ensure the customer receives the items asked for. Communication between any group of people, but here more so because the risk of not having a sale is on the line.
